Our History
The Restaurant St. Raphael was the first restaurant that opened in Marina di Puolo in 1883, and since then has passed down from generation to generation.
In the beginning, the restaurant was a cellar where local miners and stone quarry’s owners ate. It was also used by the families of the Marina di Puolo as a delicatessen and meeting place, because there was no public road leading to the Marina di Puolo beach, only a road that crosses that was once the property of Commander Achille Lauro.
During the summer in Marina di Puolo, customers used to reach the seaside village with the so-called “o’cutter” sailboats, and our restaurant became a meeting place for them as well, where they could eat the traditional dishes at the time.
In 1970, the development of the village of Marina di Puolo begins; the current public road you now see is built, and the old building where the restaurant was previously located, became demolished to build this new one.
During the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s, the development of the village led to strong tourist development in Marina di Pulo, where even famous people come to spend their holidays.
Even today, the village of Marina di Puolo is the ideal place to spend your holidays.
In recent years, our restaurant has evolved, but still today, asit was then, we offer our customers a traditional but revisited cuisine with fresh fish from the area.
